The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its football community by providing $15,000 (XCD) in relief assistance to affiliates severely impacted by Hurricane Beryl’s passage in July 2024.

Recognizing the urgent need for help, the SVGFF executive acted swiftly to assist those affected, adopting a needs-based approach to distribute the funds. This initiative saw three individuals—Otnell Douglas, Lionel Cumberbatch, and Foster Branch—receive $3,500 (XCD) each to assist with roof repairs. At the same time, other affiliates were presented with critical items to aid their recovery efforts.

The funds were presented during a small ceremony on December 24, 2024, at the SVGFF’s administrative office. President of the SVGFF, Otashie Spring, commended the dedication and contributions of the recipients to football and underscored the Federation’s responsibility to support its affiliates in times of need.

“We as a Football body are always ready to help in times of need, and this presentation is another manifestation. Our mandate is to grow the sport and touch the lives of those who have been selfless to Football, and Messrs. Douglas, Cumberbatch, and Branch fit perfectly in this respect.”

This $15,000 donation not only provided immediate relief but also highlighted the Federation’s commitment to its affiliates, ensuring that those who contribute to the growth and development of football in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are cared for during difficult times.

The SVGFF continues to prioritize the well-being of its football community, recognizing that the strength of the sport is rooted in the resilience and dedication of its members. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines U-20 women’s national team is gearing up to make waves in the prestigious Jewel’s of the Caribbean U-20 Women’s Tournament. Held in Trinidad and Tobago, this highly anticipated event brings together some of the brightest young football talents from across the region. The Vincentian squad is ready to showcase their skills and determination as they take on fierce competition, including Jamaica, Dominica, and two teams from the host nation, Trinidad and Tobago: the White Angels and Red Angels.

The competition kicks off with an exciting match schedule for the Vincentian team. The girls are set to face the following opponents:

• Jamaica on December 15th at 2:00 PM
• Trinidad & Tobago White Angels on December 16th at 7:00 PM
• Dominica on December 17th at 2:00 PM
• Trinidad & Tobago Red Angels on December 18th at 5:00 PM

Following the group stage matches, the tournament will culminate on December 20th with the third-place face-off and the championship match, where the region’s top teams will vie for ultimate glory.

In a momentous announcement at the 45th Independence celebrations, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves named Oalex Anderson, the captain of St. Vincent and the Grenadines national team, as a Sports Ambassador for the nation. Anderson, who also plays for North Carolina FC, has become an icon of perseverance and achievement in Caribbean football, inspiring both on and off the field.

Reflecting on this prestigious appointment, Anderson shared his journey, saying, “It all happened in 24 hours but it took years of hard work.. to signing my first professional contract.. to winning my first championship.. overcoming career-ending injuries.. to winning my second championship.. captain for the National Team.. to NCFC all-time top scorer.. And I thank God every day for the gift he blessed me with because I know the things he gives he can also takeaway.”

Anderson’s football career has been defined by resilience and triumph. From signing his first professional contract and achieving championships to overcoming serious injuries, he has consistently demonstrated unwavering determination. As North Carolina FC’s all-time top scorer and a key figure for the Vincy Heat, his contributions to the sport have elevated SVG’s presence in regional and international football.

Lemus Christopher, the formidable goalkeeper for Vincy Heat, earned a well-deserved place in the Best XI for the Concacaf Nations League September window in League B, Group A. His remarkable performances in the two matches against Bonaire and Montserrat showcased his skill, resilience, and composure under pressure, solidifying his reputation as one of the best in the league.

In the first match against Bonaire, Christopher put on a solid display, with FotMob awarding him a rating of 6.5. However, his defining moment came in the second game against Montserrat, where he elevated his performance to a level that captured the attention of fans and analysts alike. In this game, he achieved a stunning 9.0 rating, earning him the title of Man of the Match.

The highlight of his performance was a crucial penalty save that secured his team’s clean sheet. Montserrat was awarded a penalty, and Christopher, in a dramatic turn of events, saved it not once but twice. The referee deemed he had moved off his line during the first save, requiring a retake. Undeterred, Christopher faced down the striker and saved the retaken shot as well. This incredible double-save showcased not only his technical ability but his mental strength and focus under intense pressure, a moment that defined the match.

Over the two games, Christopher conceded just one goal, a testament to his defensive organization and sharp reflexes. His standout September performances in the Concacaf Nations League not only secured his place in the Best XI but also underscored his value to Vincy Heat as an exceptional goalkeeper, capable of changing the outcome of a game with his fearless play.

In a spirited display of talent and resilience, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) U-14 Boys’ team traveled to Trinidad and Tobago from August 16th to 19th, 2024, to compete in the CFU Boys U14 Challenge Series. SVG was placed in a competitive Tier II Group A alongside Barbados, Antigua, Guyana, and Cayman Islands, where they showcased a mix of skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament.

The competition kicked off with SVG facing Barbados in a challenging opening match. Despite their best efforts, the boys fell to Barbados, who proved formidable opponents in the first game. Nevertheless, SVG used the experience as motivation to improve their strategy and solidify team cohesion.

SVG’s comeback started strong in their next match against the Cayman Islands, where they secured a decisive victory. The team’s confidence grew with each play, and the boys dominated the field, displaying tactical brilliance and resilience. Following this victory, SVG went on to face Antigua, where they secured another well-earned win, proving their strength and adaptability in the tournament.

In the final group match against Guyana, SVG fought tenaciously and held their ground in a closely contested game, ending in a draw. The tie added a vital point to SVG’s tally, bringing their total to seven points and earning them second place in their group. This outstanding performance secured SVG’s spot as the runner-up in Tier II Group A.

Finishing with seven points, SVG’s U-14 team demonstrated the hard work, discipline, and potential that went into their preparations.
